Although it is often said that we should reduce the use of salt as it has harmful influence, especially for the kidneys and eyes, yet it may be of crucial importance in cases of other illnesses.
It is important to have it at home and use it in moderation if you want to help yourself and find a cure at home.
Here are some situations in which salt can help:
Make a mixture of 1 teaspoon salt and 2,5 dl water and mix until melted. Gargle with the solution several times a day.
Burns in mouth
If you put something hot or pungent on the tongue, make a solution of half a teaspoon of salt and 2 dl warm water and gargle every hour.
Painful and sensitive teeth
Make a solution of 1 teaspoon salt and 1 dl water, and gargle as often as possible.
As a temporary solution to reduce pain until you get to the dentist, rinse your mouth with a solution of 1 dl lukewarm water, 2 teaspoons of vinegar and 1 teaspoon salt.
Allergy and inflammation of the sinuses
Salt is a miraculous remedy for irritated mucous membranes. Cook 2 to 3 dl water, and add as much salt as needed for it to be salty as sea water. Wait to cool to room temperature, pour it into a bottle of nose drops and spray in the nose twice a day.
Salt can reduce the pain and reduce swelling in case of a sting of a bee or other insect. You can make a thick salt paste. Apply it on the stung place, and leave it to stand until it is completely dry. Salt will soothe irritation and reduce pain.
Make a feet bath which will reduce the swelling of the joints and will provide rest for the feet. In a bowl, pour warm water and add about 4 teaspoons of salt and a few drops of essential oil of lavender, peppermint or eucalyptus. Keep your feet soaked in the solution for about half an hour.
