According to an Iranian study, thyme acts a natural painkiller and provides even better results than the commonly used pain-relieving drugs such as Ibuprofen.
The study included 84 women, aged 18-24, with primary dysmenorrhea, a heavy menstrual syndrome which is characterized by painful cramps, headaches, back pain, dizziness, and nausea. Typically, primary dysmenorrhea affects young women after 2 years of menstruation. It does not cause pelvic pain during the other parts of the menstrual cycle.
The women were divided into 2 groups. The first one was given thyme, while the second one was given Ibuprofen. Although Ibuprofen helped, the group which was given thyme experienced far better results.
