Missing This Vitamin In Your Diet Can Increase Your Risk of Frequent Migraines By 300%
The duration of migraine attacks can be from a couple of hours to three days. There are many factors that can cause this kind of headache as environmental, genetic, and neurological factors.
There are different attacks and their extent is variable. Before onset, some people experience “auras”. Other symptoms are chills, sweating, sound, nausea, vomiting, smell, and sensitivity to light.
Studies have proved that more than 300 million people around the world have a problem with migraine. 6-7% of them are men, and 15-18% women.
Causes of migraines
Still the occurrence of migraines is not completely explained. But, many studies claim that these are the causes of migraine:
- Vascular constriction in the brain
Migraines can be caused by a decrease in blood flow and constriction of the blood vessel, followed by stretching and dilation of blood vessels, thus activating the neurons which cause the pain.

Migraine attack can often occur because of a disorder of the nerves linked to an activity of the nerve cell, moving through the brain and causing pain.
- Excessive increase of blood flow in the brain
Headaches did not occur as a result of decreased blood flow, but as a result of increased one up to 300%.
VITAMIN DEFICIENCY AND MIGRAINES
A study showed that migraines can be reduced by vitamin B6, B12 and folic acid supplements during a period of 6 months. The European Journal of Neurology conducted a study in 2004 which showed the same results – the consumption of high doses of riboflavin can prevent migraine attacks.
The increased levels of homocysteine can cause a dysfunction or a certain gene mutation, which makes people prone to migraines. B6 and B12 supplements can reduce homocysteine.
According to Professor Lyn Griffiths:
Professor Lyn Griffiths claims that if the same vitamin dose is received by all patients for the same period of time, during the treatment those with TT genotypes would metabolize less homocysteine in a comparison with C allele carriers.
Griffiths explains that the genetic profile is of great importance for the optimal dose of B vitamins. However, other types of deficiency can also cause migraine attacks. A study has found out that 42% of patients who suffer from migraine have a deficiency of vitamin D.
