Natural ways to get rid of spiders

Every being exists for a reason, and spiders do so, too. Killing them is the last thing you should do, and if you want to keep these away from your home, you better look for a natural solution to your problem. Toxic chemicals are also a bad and dangerous option. Keep your house clean, and you will not have any spider inhabiting the corners of your home.

House cleaning:

  • Vacuum cleaning
  • Sweeping
  • Dusting
  • Declutter

Pay special attention to the last one. Throw out any unnecessary items, clean the surfaces and get rid of pretty much everything you do not need. Spiders sure love all those tiny things you do need.

Clean your basement, backyard and garden as well.

Clean the outside of your house:

  • Rake the lawn
  • Remove any clippings, fallen leaves and sticks
  • Wipe clean your windows
  • Clean the windowsills as well
  • Clean the gaps between your doors and floors; Consider caulking whenever needed
  • Keep your balcony clean; Get rid of the stuff you do need anymore

Vinegar solution is an excellent cleaning detergent. Use one part of vinegar and two parts of water. Do not worry about its pungent smell, because it is the thing that will keep you safe from mosquitoes and ants as well. Keep the liquid in a spray bottle, and spray the areas spiders love the most. The sharp scent shall disappear once the solution dries. This is one of the greatest homemade cleaning solutions.

Peppermint essential oil

Spiders literally hate this. Fill a spray bottle with water, add a tiny bit of dishwashing liquid and eight drops of peppermint essential oil. You can always add some more oil. Spray the solution in every spider-friendly spot.

Combine peppermint and vinegar in a mighty solution. Although these two are quite different, their combination, they sure make for a super powerful spider repellant.

If these combinations do not work for you, use peppermint oil on its own. But, you do not want to use too much, because it has quite a strong scent.

Cedar blocks

Clean your closets and any other surface using vinegar solution. Next, place a few cedar blocks in your closets and cupboards. Cedar mulch will keep spiders away from your gardens. Look for cedar hangers for your clothes. That is a nice way to repel spiders and moth.

Citrus fruits can help you as well. Use orange peel to rub every surface in your home that attracts spiders. Lemons work well, too. If you prefer using lemon essential oil, use it in the same way you use peppermint oil.

Spiders hate tree nuts, especially chestnuts. In the UK, chestnuts represented a strong defense against spiders. Can you imagine what an outbreak of spiders looks like? It is probably the scent of the nut that spiders hate. All you have to do is place chestnuts in the problem areas.

The most important thing is to stay calm and do not panic. Not all spiders are poisonous, it is just few of them that may be dangerous for you. Help your spiders find their way to the nature instead of killing them.
