The Journal of Anticancer Research published a study according to which the extract liposomal curcumin of turmeric can be applied to patient diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. The study showed that curcumin is more powerful than conventional chemo drugs.
Researchers from the Department of Molecular Biology and Immunology and the Institute for Cancer Research, University of North Texas Health Science Center used lab mice to prove this.
Liposomal curcumin is the primary polyphenol in turmeric, and it has shown to have antitumor effect on lab mice.
Its effect was long studied, and scientists finally proved that it can kill cancer cells. Over 1,500 studies involve similar findings, and the extract can be used in the treatment of 100 different cancers.
Curcumin and pancreatic cancer
Unfortunately, conventional treatments can’t do much about pancreatic cancer. According to the American Cancer Society, only 14% of all patients diagnosed with Stage IA cancers survive. Only 1% of patients diagnosed with Stage IV cancer survive.
The ACS showed that chemo, surgery, and radiotherapy shrink tumors, and the patient survives with a small risk of developing recurrent cancer.
But, the new study showed that turmeric suppresses tumors by 42%.
“These data clearly establish the efficacy of liposomal curcumin in reducing human pancreatic cancer growth in the examined model. The therapeutic curcumin-based effects, with no limiting side-effects, suggest that liposomal curcumin may be beneficial in patients with pancreatic cancer,” researchers explain.
Turmeric destroys lethal cancers, and the new research confirms this. The yellow spice has been long used in Ayurvedic and traditional Chinese therapies.
Hopefully, turmeric will soon become a part of modern treatments.
It’s an excellent liver and kidney detoxifier. Turmeric stimulates metabolism, promotes weight loss, and it’s definitely a ‘superfood.’
Studies suggest that turmeric treats depression, skin damages, and arthritis.
