Acid Reflux Meds Linked To Kidney Disease, Anemia, IBS And Bone Loss
It is scientifically shown that acid reflux (GERD) has been misdiagnosed and treated with PPI’s drugs, when the cause all along has been inflammation. Drug names include Prilosec, Prevacid, and Nexium and are sold as over the counter and prescription.
PPIS elevate chances of chronic kidney disease
According to a study that involved over 250,000 people, PPIs (proton-pump inhibitors) seem to increase the risk of developing chronic kidney disease. These medicines are used in the treatment of heartburn. It is estimated that 15 million Americans use PPIs on a regular basis. Morgan Grams, an epidemiologist at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Health along with her colleges decided to examine if PPIs can increase the chances of developing chronic kidney disease.
They examined the results of 2 groups of people: 248,751 patients in the Geisinger Health System in Pennsylvania and 10,482 participants in the Atherosclerosis Risk in Communities (ARIC). The results showed that people in the first group who were using PPIs had increased risk of chronic kidney disease by 11.8% while people in the second group have 15.6% increased risk.
Acid Reflux Drugs Linked to Vitamin B12 Deficiency
It is known that acid reflux drugs such as Nexium can cause a number of side effects, including heart problems, osteoporosis, anemia, hypertension, and digestive problems like irritable bowel syndrome (IBS).
Actually, the prescribed drugs for treating acid reflux do not treat the condition itself but only the symptoms. They can’t treat the root cause of the problem, which in turn leads to worsening the problem over the years.
It was shown that individuals taking acid reflux drugs are more likely to experience vitamin B12 deficiency. According to many studies, the majority of Americans suffer from vitamin B12 deficiency. The main cause of this is the use of medications that deplete not only vitamin B12 but many other essential nutrients in the body.
The U.S. National Institutes of Health claims that deficiency of vitamin B12 can lead to tiredness, weakness, constipation, anemia as well as osteoporosis, nerve damage, and dementia. Being the largest vitamin molecule, vitamin B12 requires sufficient stomach acid in order to help the body absorb. Acid reflux and other drugs that can reduce stomach acid will reduce the absorption of this essential vitamin as well!
You have most likely been misdiagnosed
Acid reflux is a common health issue, affecting a number of people. Generally speaking, it is said that the GERD is caused by having excess acid in the stomach, so the doctor will prescribe an anti-acid or PPI.
The thing is that acid reflux is caused by several reasons other than over-production of stomach acid. In fact, one of the main causes is under-production of stomach acid! This is usually caused by an unhealthy diet and lifestyle (including stress and medications).
So, if you suffer from acid reflux and you use PPI like Prilosec or Prevacid, please bear in mind that these are extremely dangerous drugs and you should stop using them. These medications can worsen your symptoms and your condition and you will end up being worse than before you started taking them.
In order to eliminate this condition totally, you should follow a healthy lifestyle and diet that will help you to say goodbye to this condition once and for all!
